Wednesday, 10-28-15: In further pursuit of X, master criminal...

When it comes to finding X in word problems, we've got some skill. After all, we wrote equations for word problems in target 2.1, in the last unit! But now we're writing equations from word problems, and that can get a little tricky.

In class, we compiled a list of words we might see that might indicate which inequality symbol we're supposed to use.

With these words, try to compose inequality statements based on these sentences.

- T is non-negative.
- X is positive.
- K is no more than 3.
- R is at least 2.
- S is at most 4.
- V is no less than 7.



Were those pretty easy for you? Try these; they're a little harder!

- A bus can seat at most 48 students.
- It's not safe to use a light bulb of more than 60 watts for this fixture.
- At least 350 students attended the band concert on Friday.
- There have been more than 75 sightings of bigfoot this year.



Now it's time for the REAL word problems. Try to write an equation from the problems below, and then solve it. Remember to ACTUALLY WRITE AN EQUATION instead of simply coming up with an answer!
